The as it is in direct conflict with one of our 10KV — Social Justice. Check out our party platform on the issue at: http://www.gp.org/platform/2004/socjustice.html#1002510
The Green party’s position is a sad reflection of the same political pressures that the Dems and the Repugs succumb to.
The ever-growing Hispanic base has become an extremely powerful political force that is causing greens to abandon core values such as future focus, sustainability, and ecological wisdom so as to not alienate a growing political power. The Sierra club is still dealing with the political fallout as a result of internal squabbles about whether to appear more anti-human than ecologically wise as it relates to their position on immigration. The USGP needs to exhibit the type of leadership that does the right thing regardless of the political price.
A fair and equitable program to help these folks will provide equal access to working people of all nationalities, not tied to a specific employer or guest worker program. Programs involving temporary worker status must include the option of permanent residency for immigrants already in the U.S. and protection of migrant worker savings.
Another way of saying what was just said in the above statement is “Allow everyone who wants to come to the United States to just come on in. No process, no rules, no requirements, no thought to the social, cultural, economic, labor, or environmental effects of such a policy, just a loyal alliance to an ideal that in the end is neither humane or reasonable.
Telling the truth is often a lonely proposition.
The truth is that unfettered immigration, legal or illegal will only escalate the environmental apocalypse that is upon us.
It is cowardly to talk about human rights while shitting in the very mechanism that provides us life.
Some things on the left never change.

Subject: [discuss] Re: [cc] What should be the Green position on unfetteredimmigration?
This is a cogent and thoughtful line of thinking that has been considered by many since Malthus first wrote. In the early Seventies I became an advocate of Zero Population Growth for the environmental reasons Steve mentions below. Having ZPG become a value that all cultures adopt is difficult due to religious values and most obviously, economic values.
Free trade and the bracero programs which have existed in this country for decades need to be terminated. One way to help bring that about is to insist on living wages being paid for all work in the United States. The global corporatists say: “Immigrant laborers are doing work Americans don’t want to do.” Correct–Americans don’t want to do that sort of work for the very low wages paid. Pay a living wage, and Americans will flock to those jobs! If Americans flock to those jobs, there will be no plethora of jobs for immigrants–legal or illegal.
Secondly, if we really wish to slow immigration to the US, then let’s begin rigorously enforcing those laws which penalize employers that hire illegal immigrants. A huge bust just happened in Portland where scores of “illegal immigrants” were arrested by INS. The entire story has been one of enforcing the law, splitting up families, and the harshness/righteousness of that action. Were any employers arrested? Will any go to court and be found guilty and receive a prison sentence? Put the bosses in jail, and the jobs will begin to disappear for those who come here primarily to support themselves and their families.
ZPG must go hand-in-hand with social justice, fair pay, and economic and environmental sustainability. It is not an either/or choice. No good will come of strictly enforcing the law against illegal immigrants unless wages paid in all countries become living wages, and unless employers who break the law are punished. That will make the jobs illegals currently obtain disappear. When that happens, the motivation to come to the US, legally or illegally, will be greatly diminished. That is the focus, I think, which the Pacific Green Party needs to address.

Subject: [cc] What should be the Green position on unfettered immigration?
In the opinion of this green, at some point the health of our planet must supersede our desire for global social justice manifested through the support of unfettered illegal immigration. I have never bought into the idea of scarcity, but the hard reality is that our planet is dieing and we need to begin to take measures to stop the suicidal track we are on.
Right now, the USGP has taken sides in the illegal immigration debate by siteing the fact that both major parties are operating out of the same framework to implement a massive cheap labor management program for the benefit of major and minor US corporations under the guise of immigration reform. They are correct of course, but what they fail to mention is the environmental impact of continued unfettered immigration. Does anyone else see this as odd coming from an environmental party?
The United States recently surpassed 300,000,000 people at the end of October. The current demographic predictions, based on accelerating growth levels, show America adding 100 million people by 2040. For those asleep at the wheel—that’s 34 years from now—a blink in time.
What does that mean to the land we live in? What about our overloaded cities? Overwhelmed schools? How about our water, farm land, energy, air quality, food sources, species habitat, and dozens of other critical environmental issues?
Do socially conscious Greens really understand the ominous consequences?
Can any Greens or others who care about humanity and social justice issues name one advantage to adding 3,000,000,000 more people to the globe? Is there some cosmic reason? Reasonable religious reason? Any rational reason? Any sane purpose? Already, eight million people starve to death annually. Over 35 percent of humanity does not have clean drinking water. Species extinction exceeds thousands annually. What is it that we hope to accomplish by adding another 3.0 billion people to the planet with the consequences already raining down on us with current population levels? In the next 50 years, you can expect 1,000,000 to as many as 3,000,000 more people added to your state depending on location. Once their numbers manifest, they won’t go away. Today, states like Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and California don’t possess enough water for their residents. Aquifers degrade as fast as diesel engines pump them dry. No matter how many reservoirs they build, it won’t rain or snow more because they add millions of people. Water shortages and rationing will become the norm.
While we exceed the land’s carrying capacity, we pack ourselves in like sardines with smart growth, slow growth and managed growth. We continue to expand urban sprawl by building suburbs for the vanishing middle class to escape from the crowded cities. It’s all growth that adds cars, trucks, homes, power plants, malls and smoke stacks. Have you noticed traffic in your city? Have you seen the Brown Cloud thicken in toxicity over your area? How about the bumper-to-bumper traffic? Can you imagine what it will be with an added 100 million people in 34 years? How about your quality of life? What about species extinction? Air pollution? Acid rain? Crowding of national parks? Lakes? Streams? How about soil erosion? The continued assault on what is left of our vanishing forests?
As Greens do we simply ignore the incredibly devastating environmental effects of allowing corporate America and their Democrat and Republican lackeys to utilize an illegal workforce that can’t vote at the expense of what is left of our fragile environment? Should our commitment to social justice for illegal immigrants trump our future focus? Should social justice for illegal immigrants trump sustainability? Does prioritizing social justice for illegal immigrants constitute ecological wisdom?
These are tough questions that most greens want to just go away so they don’t have to face the realities of unfettered illegal immigration.
I don’t want to be misunderstood and I stand in solidarity with my Latin American brothers and sisters and have advocated the elimination of Free trade agreements like NAFTA that have helped to create the horrific economic conditions in Mexico and central American countries. But as a Green who cares about the world I am leaving my granddaughter, I can not in good conscience support unfettered illegal immigration and I think it high time that the Green party stop playing politics with the future of the planet.

The attached list of amendments for ‘immigration Reform”
The attached list is extensive indeed. However, those whoa re interested should review those sponsored by the “Grand Bargainers” who we all recognize as Feinstein, Kennedy, McCain, Kyl, and Graham. You should also be interested in their cosponsors. These are the power brokers pushing this legislation. Of course in my opinion Mr. Reed is also a significant partner in the passage of this bill. He is in my opinion the “ram rod”.
So the task ahead is to evaluate just what these amendments do and what they do or don’ t do and how they impact Americans.
Now notice this. It is evident the large number of calls, emails and other notifications to Congress have and are making an impact to the extent that those who want this to ‘fly bye” are now urging “closure” which basically means it passed!
Read down the list or go to the web site and you have your answers.
In my opinion it matters not because those who want this past will do all they can to excerpt pressure to get it done. It is not about common sense, logic or really anything but what these people see as their thing to do. They are in my opinion in effect the taskmasters of old. [ Read my next article “Do as I say or else”.
Now these are “commendable people” as they say? So I offer to you this, just who and what now defines commendable or for that matter good? I am not a lawyer but I do hope we have some lawyers out there I do think you can find a bonanza using this new legislation as a defense.

Senate makes illegal workers legal, wow was that a surprise.
Yes, they did as I have been writing to for two years now. Today in the back pages of the St. Pete Times in a small article hidden in my opinion away from the front page where it belongs the truth is there for all to read. To quote “a product of secret negotiations between the White House and a dozen Senators.”
There in my opinion are the true leaders of this nation.
Yes, they are in my opinion The Society of Sinners as I have written to before. From this day forward America in my opinion is not and never will be the America we have known.
They were many avenues to send these workers home simply by enforcing current law and shutting down employment. In my opinion all of us and especially our children and their have been sold out!
I have nothing else to say except that we will have SPP [The North American Union] sooner then you think and you who are smiling now will one day smile no longer.
66 Senators voted for it. To me it makes no difference. The American people have spoken. They are apathetic and evidently have theirs. I and a few are just some who will have to adjust to the new era of low wages, no benefits.
Remember this as those SUV’s and big houses go up in those secluded neighborhoods, these are the 20% who HAVE and you are the 80% who in my opinion mean nothing.
I for one have had it. Now here is the list of those who voted for it. Post it somewhere if you object. But if you are of the ilk that haven’t voted before then 2008 is the day of reckoning for them!
Here is the list directly from the Senate Voting record Count:
Alphabetical by Senator Name. Notice the possible Presidential Candidates and those missing. Could it be they wish to deceive us by saying during their campaign ‘I didn’t vote for that”. Is that the kind of leader YOU WANT who can’t make a decision?

Yes, here it is America. In my opinion they might as well stop right now and just vote on the entire package because they are the ones I have been writing to all week long. Now remember this. This site will most likely not front page this article.
So pass it along and if this really disturbs you then take it and use it in 2008 and before!
God Bless America.

Who are they that really govern us?
June 10, 2007 1:19 pmAn Article by:
Robert T. Melaccio Sr.
Now this is a very profound question that all Americans who love this nation as it is or I should say was should be concerned about. As we see this ‘Immigration” Bill which is really not an immigration bill for those who care and know, and I will say that again care and know the real truths. You see these truths are “self evident” for all who wish to find them. They are right there to be found yet people prefer to be told.
We find out that these Grand Bargainers met in secret to forge this Bill. They have threatened to get it passed one way or another and all the while they say the things Americans want to hear while in their heart of hearts they know the truth about the real purpose of this Bill. It is in my opinion just ignored because it does not meat their criteria and if they spoke the truth Americans would be outraged.
Yes, it was born in secrecy and it will be birthed in secrecy.
Now we realize in full, which in my opinion is the ignorance of many of our college “educated’ as to just what this is all about and here is the key, how it impacts them! Wow, how it impacts them! We even get to throw in their loved ones, children and future children. You see education will be for the preferred, the wealthy and the chosen and of course non-Americans. They warned me years ago in college they would shape their minds and they have been successful beyond their wildest dreams.
Now what will be will be because America, as it was, was the last bastion of real freedom. As I say again, the last bastion of real freedom. People came for the American dream and yes even more people seek that dream. They just chose to do it unlawfully. To say otherwise and to cover it in nice is just not truth.
Sadly, in my opinion, a great darkness has descended over this land. A land where lies, omission, deceit, falsehood and covetousness and greed take the place of honor, character, morals and what is just the plain truth, right and justice.
They can say what they want, they can call people what they want, but they know in their heart of hearts where only God looks the sin they hide in secret.
Just yesterday I received a polling call. The girl was from India, by nature of her accent but she lied and said she was in upstate NY.. Now it could be that she was here in America. I don’t know but her strong accent was sure Indian. . Now she asked me what language would I like to take the poll in and get this ‘Spanish” or English. I said I’m American so I will use the language of our nation. Once again she asked me the same question. I finally said English. Now what is the purpose of this? Well it is for you old timers who don’t use the internet much to remember this when your children ask you for help. Remember when they are laid off and have no hope, remember when the only jobs are dead end ones and last 89 days.
Yes, they say this is good for America and yes they mean the new America of the world and they really mean their America. So get used to it you who wear your old uniforms and carry the Flag and sing the Anthem be prepared to say it in Spanish and be prepared for a different flag for it will be and you will be the ones who look bewildered.
America, the land of the free is in my opinion no more. Sadly or unfortunately, the word of this century, we do not even recognize it is lost. To those who scoff, laugh and do not believe, I would rather you are right. However, if if you are not, just what will you do?

America’s Two Illicit Addictions: Drugs and Immigration
March 17, 2007 10:04 amThis last junket by Bush may have been considered a tour de force for US relations with Latin America, but it wasn’t much of a tour and definitely provided no feat; in fact, it was a total waste. Uruguay’s and Brazil’s heads of state, both in the opposite side of the political spectrum from Bush, were forced to appear diplomatically courteous, probably wondering why Condi Rice had cast them to play in this five-act farce. The stops in Colombia, Guatemala and Mexico did make a lot more sense since those nations are major suppliers for America’s top two illicit addictions: drugs and immigration. Uribe (Colombia) and Calderon (Mexico) have a good compa in Bush. Not the other leaders.
It was a meaningless trip for a meaningless dignitary to an already lost part of the world (in terms of special, neighborly relations). Latin Americans, at least the 80 percent who are dirt-poor, have realized that the US has never been their friend, only a detached stepmother; and that any future overtures probably carry price tags they can ill afford.
Why would the United States help Latin America? it never has! For a century all the programs and money invested in the Iberian Down Under have been either minuscule (programs) or have had exploitative results (investments). To hear Bush speak and say that the $1.6 billion sent last year went for ’social justice’ causes is going from the ridiculous (the small amount) to the sublime (stating that it was for worthwhile causes), back to the ridiculous (as most of those funds were used for military purposes to fight the FARC guerrillas in Colombia, or for the interdiction of drugs). In fact, Venezuela with a population one-twelfth that of the United States provided last year far more help to the people of Latin America, when you add the price breaks on oil to the direct aid, than the US. So stop the on-going deceit, Mr. President, social justice causes, you say?
But even if America of the North has never felt compelled to help the America to the South, it recognizes that the Latin folks play key roles in the USL: two great addictions. For better or for worse the Latin and Anglo parts of the hemisphere are linked in many ways; and that’s a fact that politicians there and here know quite well.
Politicians who proselytize supply-side economics have played working Americans for suckers for over a quarter of a century with their trickled-down economics. But, what’s just as bad is that politicians who refuse to acknowledge our demand-side realities have played all Americans for suckers twice that long. Republicans and Democrats, both!
We have been ‘at war’ with those who supply illicit drugs to our population for more than two generations, failing to admit that drug-addiction is mainly a demand problem, not supply. Having a Drug Czar and our war on drugs to defend our purity has been but a crock. If we stop being hypocrites and call a spade a spade, our level of success with this biological-social problem would be far greater domestically - at a much lower cost - and we wouldn’t have to cause so many problems to nations in Latin America that supply us. This is an issue where most intelligent people, capitalists or anarchists alike, would find total agreement: that it is nonsensical to treat the alcohol-drugs problem as criminality. But politicians have preferred to keep their eyes closed to this reality.
And, in a similar fashion, politicians have also decided to keep their eyes closed to the other domestic reality, one that now dominates the American landscape: undocumented or illegal immigration (adjective to be used depending on how you view the subject). Why? For the simple reason that this form of immigration is also an addiction, one that needs to be tackled from the demand, not the supply side. Again, just like the illicit drugs issue, it should not be treated as criminality. In both cases we need to quell or treat the demand with appropriate legislation that addresses all humane and social aspects, not just economic and political.
Americans’ addiction to undocumented labor is not just restricted to businesses but also the greedy side of the average Joe and Jane. Our anarchical state on the issue of illicit immigration is everyone’s fault, not just politicians of the right, or the other politicians of the lesser-right. The problem has been around for decades, was poorly addressed two decades ago, and now has become a monster that scares us all; a dragon that people demand be slain, calling for that knight, Jingo, and squires like Lou Dobbs and Patrick Buchanan to rid us of it once and for all, so that we may keep our whored virginity intact.
On his last stop in Mexico, Bush was admonished by that country’s recently elected (or not, according to his leftist challenger) mandatary that building a wall along the border is not the answer to stop his countrymen from crossing over. And Calderon is quite right about that. The US with its addiction has created an addiction for that country as well, as $20-30 billion are sent by the immigrants to their families in Mexico every year, the second largest source of revenue for that nation after the Almighty Crude.
A social worker friend, whose maternal grandparents had crossed the border illegally from Mexico in the 1950’s, told me last year - I assume it was in jest - that if the US really wanted to solve this crisis, not just for us but for the Latinos as well, we should round up all able-bodied undocumented workers and give them some Al-Qaeda type of training for six or eight weeks, then send them back to their countries of origin with an AK-47 in their hands, and a promise that the US would help once they mow down their corrupt governments. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that this nation neither funds nor gives its imprimatur to revolutions by the oppressed; it’s only the oppressors we help. It’s the nature of predatory capitalism - how many times must we be told!
As for America’s two great addictions, we’ll continue to do little or nothing, blaming - as always - the supply-side.

The PC Rampage and its Consequences for Public Dialog
April 6, 2006 3:03 amI feel compelled to continue to plead for a dialog concerning illegal immigration that extends beyond the bombastic PC oratory that is projected, oftentimes, by members of American society that do not suffer from the economic impact that the constant influx of cheap labor manifests.
Economists, as they always do in respect to contentious issues, have taken a manifold of positions regarding the benefits or detriments of illegal immigration. However, I can state that the economists who support the opening of the border with Mexico appear to deploy justifications, such as, immigrant labor forces those without highschool degrees to further their education, so to ascend to employment niches that require technical skills, and, accordingly, pay better.
This type of rationalization on the part of those who advocate an open-border with Mexico seems to me, at least, to be as callous, if not more so, than those who want to establish legislation, making illegal immigration a felony. To compound the effects of this rhetoric upon popular-opinion, media sources are parading small to middle sized business owners, who claim that they would not have a work force without a stream of temporary labor.
Never do the interviewers query the petite capitalists as to the amount of income that they extract from their operations on a yearly basis, in order to assess whether a rather severe reduction of the profiteering conducted by the owners of the modes of production might provide for the opportunity to attract American citizens to assume these labor capacities by offering a living-wage. Therefore, from the failure to disclose such pertinent information, the population is proferred a tilted narration, including only limited content, in regards to the multiplicity of aspects that demand consideration, when externalizing the experiences of the people who stand to either profit from an open-border or descend deeper into financial distitude.
Further, not once have I observed an interview with a member of the African-American urban communities, in order to reveal the negative effects that this constant injection of bodies into the unskilled labor-market has upon their earning potential as well as their ability to even procure a job. I, over the years, have worked in various warehouses, as a teamster, and I can testify, from my own experiences, that the individuals who take these jobs have families consisting of dependents, and so forth.
This is why I become infuriated when I read yet another inflamatory essay by a member of the New-left establishment who claims that any opposition to illegal immigration is an embodiment of a racist, white-supremist ideology. What do these people know about the effects of illegal immigration? They exist outside the deplorable conditions in which the people, who must compete with this continuous exportation of another country’s underclass, live.
Additionally, the rhetoric, consisting of platitudes and hyberbole, expoused by these brave defenders of illegal immigration, who have nothing personally to lose, are conspicuously absent of empirical content. Rather, this discourse consists of ridiculous generalizations that reduce the complexity of this issue into a dichotonomy between those who embrace multi-culturalism and diversity and those who are reactionary in the sense that they are endeavoring to preserve some crystalized conceptualization of American culture, which, as most of us who side with the American wage-earner, know not to exist in the first place.
This issue should have nothing to do with cultural or ethnic considerations. Quite simply - and it would be ostensible, as well, if not for the obfuscating discourse emanating from brave, white-middle-class activists who triumphently blow their horns of self-righteousness - this social-problem is comprised of multiple concers; one of which is the plight of the American wage-earner and his or her further exploitation resulting from the strange marriage between the New-left and the neo-conservatives, who chime in harmony as they advocate a policy that will further saturate the American labor market, allowing both the Mexican elites and the American corporate-elites to continue to fill their pockets.
